When my husband was growing up, he
did not have cable. He tells me this frequently and before we had kids
he was insistent that we cancel our cable when we had kids. After we
had our first child he told me it was time to cancel it. I refused and
instead switched to direct.tv.
It is not that I want our kids growing up glued to the TV, but I will
be the one at home with our kids all day and I deserve to watch a little
TV. As our kids get a little older I will let them watch some TV. I
really think they can learn a lot from educational shows like Sesame
Street. I refuse to let the TV act as a babysitter as some parents do.
When the weather is nice I think that kids should be outside playing
and exploring. However, when they need to sit still for a few minutes, I
see no problem with them watching a little TV. I have friends who do
not let their kids watch any TV. I say good for them, but I have a different parenting strategy.
