Back when I lived in northwest Arkansas, Target stores weren’t part of the landscape.

That all changed around 2000 when Target finally built a location in Fayetteville. The company had been trying to get into the northwest Arkansas market for years, but had a bit of a challenge – that part of the world is where Walmart Stores is headquartered and that particular retailer wasn’t too thrilled about a major competitor invading its market.

Yes, the announcement that a Target store was finally going up in the are generated some excitement, indeed. Excitement? Over a retailer? Yes, and here’s why – competition benefits consumers. They get lower prices and more selection than they would otherwise.

At any rate, Target has been a fixture here in central Arkansas for years and I can’t help but think the company is glad that northwest Arkansas has joined the party. What could make the experience even better for consumers?
