Worldess Wednesday -- The Call!

Ah, there are times when The Hawg just misses the 1980s and that has a lot to do with the music back then.

Here's one from The Call from way on back in 1983. There was a great band that never got the credit it deserved, and "The Walls Came Down" was the best thing the Call recorded.

Turn up those speakers, enjoy, and check out the other Wordless Wednesday participants (or submit something of your own!) when you're done listening.

Well, who could object to a beardless Michael Been?

Heh.

Oh, yeah! I saw The Call open for Simple Minds in 1986. I remember the year because I was pregnant with my son at the time and when Simple Minds sang "Alive and Kicking" I thought that was really cool! I love the 80's too. I'm in Little Rock and here in Little Rock (believe it or not) I've seen Flock of Seagulls, The FIXX, Modern English and Missing Persons. I've actually seen Flock of Seagulls twice in Little Rock. LOVE LIVE THE 80'S AND NEW WAVE!!!!!

I've seen some great bands in Little Rock, too. However, that was almost always in the late 1980s and early 1990s when I was in college. At Juanita's, I saw 24-7 Spyz, the Goo Goo Dolls, the Gunbunnies (an Arkansas band!), the Veldt and Glass Eye (well, that was on 7th Street -- can't remember the name of the club).

When I was in law school in Fayetteville, I saw the Dead Milkmen and the New Duncan Imperials play.

Good times.

And, heck yeah -- new wave and the 1980s forever! I wish I could have both the Call and Simple Minds in Little Rock. Flock of Seagulls, too. Oh well...

Arkansan? Got ties to the Natural State? Why not join the All Arkie Army?

I LOVED the Gunbunnies. I can't remember the singer's name now, but I heard that he is part of They Might Be Giants now. Juanita's is where I saw Flock of Seagulls. I saw them again at the DMZ (which is now Vino's). I saw the Goo Goo Dolls too. Do you remember who they opened for?

Oh, and, I guess I should clarify...I saw Simple Minds and The Call in Memphis at the Orpheum.

Thanks for this, this song always made me happy, and it worked again today. In my mind, for some reason, this song "belongs" with "She's a Beauty" by the Tubes and "We Built This City on Rock and Roll" by Starship... those songs make me happy too. Glad I came here today.

The 80s are my favorite decade... I graddyated high school then, went to college then, had a great time. It's also the only decade in my music-listening life that had decent pop music. I'm more inclined toward harder rock and heavy metal but I enjoyed the bands of the early MTV era a great deal.

I am only familiar with the songs of 80s, I don't know why!!

Kelly -- Well, that's not too far away. Again, wish I could report that I saw those two bands in the 1980s. As for the Gunbunnies, they had a lot of ties to Hendrix College, so we all adored them over there.

hebsfarm -- That song has the same impact on me. Just a solid rocker banged out with enthusiasm. Gets me every time.

Toni -- You're welcome. 'Tis a shame to forget about the Call!

Gumby -- Obviously, we're about the same age. I love those early "alternative" band quite a bit, although I did spend a lot of time listening to the thrash, thrash and more thrash in college. Old school punk is great stuff, too.

iwalk -- Same here, but that has more to do with my age than anything else.

Wow thanks for reminding me about that song...I had completely forgotten it. I wonder if they ever play it on VH1 classic.... Thanks for visiting.
